Mary Hokanson Wolfley, 91, a nurse and homemaker of Bedford, died Feb 4, 1985 of congestive heart failure in Bedford, Wyo.
Funeral services will be held today, Feb 7 at 12 noon in the Thayne LDS Church with the Thayne First Ward Bishopric officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to funeral time. Burial will be in the Bedford Cemetery under the direction of Schwab Mortuary.
Mary was born Oct 20, 1893 to Elizabeth Ann Michelson and Hokan Hokanson in Glenco, Unita, Wyo. She was raised at Glenco and graduated from the eighth grade. She then went to the LDS Nursing School in Salt Lake City in 1920 and graduated in 1923.
Mary worked as a private nurse for two years then came back to Star Valley to help at home with younger sisters and continued nursing when she was needed. She started working for Dr Samuel Worthen in his hospital above the Afton Post Office.
During the second World War, she worked for Dr. Treloar. They were the only medical people in the valley during the war since Dr. Worthen was called in the Army. After Dr. Worthen returned home, he built the Star Valley Hospital. She served as superintendent of the hospital and lived downstairs in it.
Mary married Ernest Wolfley Sr. on Sept 28, 1949 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in Afton for one year then moved to Bedford to Ernest's ranch where she lived until her death.
Mary served as Relief Society president, Sunday School teacher, Primary in-service leader in the LDS Church.
Surviving her death are her children; Mrs Frane (Leta) Wilkes, Roy Wolfley, Mrs Carl (Ourelia) Ransom, Arvel Wolfley all of Bedford; Mrs Lloyd (Olga) Coates of Etna, Mrs Wayne (Mary) Eggleston of Grover, Ernest Wolfley Jr. of Freedom. Her brothers and sisters; Owen Hokanson of Thayne, Mrs Loren (Ruth) Roberts of Etna, Mrs Glen (Nelle) Walker of Afton and Mrs Erwin (Delila) Dana of Green River, 39 grandchildren and 108 great grandchildren.
Preceding her death were her parents, husband, daughter Mrs Ross (Edith) Johnson of Auburn, and son Narvel Wolfley of Smoot.
