Lydia was the daughter of Jan Hans Duyts (or Dey) and Marietje Molenaar (or Maertje Joosts Vermuelen Molenaar) of New Netherlands, now New York City. (Molenaar means "Miller" in Dutch; "Malenar" and "Mulnired" are typographic or reading errors.)

She married Samuel Kierstede on February 8, 1718, in Richmond County, Colony of New York, British Colonial America (named for Charles Lennox, 1st Duke of Richmond, an illegitimate son of King Charles II). Richmond County is present-day Staten Island.

The couple had seven children in Richmond County between 1718 and 1730: Anna, Samuel, Johannes, Lydia, Catherine, James, and Sarah. Daughter Lydia (1725-1795), married William Hayden, a 5th generation descendant of Mayflower passengers John Alden and Priscilla Mullins, in 1748, likely in Richmond County.

Samuel died in 1733 in Richmond County, and is buried either there, or in the cemetery of Dutch Reformed Church where he was christened in Manhattan. Lydia is likely buried with him.
