PORTER CHILDERS SR., 89, of Imlay City, died Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at home in Imlay City.

Porter James Childers was born April 23, 1930, in Brier Hill, OH. He is the son of the late Zephern and the late Melva (Gabbard) Childers. He married Virginia Rae Back on December 15, 1950 in Jackson, KY.


Porter Sr. worked for Ford Proving Grounds in Romeo as a custodian for 16 years. He also worked for the Brisk Foundry in Imlay City for 23 years. He was a farmer who raised animals for his family. Porter enjoyed playing the banjo and singing, and would do so when the Childers and Gabbard families would meet.

He is survived by one daughter, Cathy Greenia of Emmett; and three sons, Bobby Childers of Imlay City, Porter Childers of Imlay City and Willie (Kathy) Childers of Imlay City. He is also survived by one brother, Oscar Childers of Beattyville, KY; and son-in-law, Jim Arnold of Imlay City.

Porter was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Childers; daughter, Reba Arnold; daughterin law, Kathy Childers; daughter-in-law, Dawn Childers; and son-in-law, Scott Greenia.
