Joseph Foos was born in Franklin County, OH. He appears in the 1830 Census in Delaware County, OH living next door to his father Valentine Foos, and has a wife and one young daughter. Valentine took his son Joseph to Vermillion County, IN in 1837 and purchased 2 parcels of land next door to each other - one for himself and one for Joseph. Valentine then returned to Ohio.
Joseph was divorced in Vermillion County in 1848. He then moved back to Ohio and lived with cousins. He worked as a laborer. His wife and 10 children remained in Vermillion County, IN. All of his children are named after his cousins and family members. He died in the poor house in Marion County. His sister Mary was also in the same poor house and died there.

Married Charlotte Hinton December 25, 1828 in Delaware County, OH She died in Vermillion Co, IN before Census of 1880. There is no tombstone for her. She was living with daughter Phoebe Campbell who also died before 1880. No tombstone for her.
