Orry was born in Fountain Prairie Township, Columbia County, Wisconsin, on June 11, 1851. She was the fifth child of Ezra Holden Wood and Catherine Gamel. In 1867, the family moved to a farm in Woodville Township, Waseca County, Minnesota. When she was older, Orry would tell her grandchildren that she moved from "York State" to Waseca in a covered wagon. In 1869, when Orry was 18, she was living on her parent's farm in Waseca County.

On November 18 of that year, in the city of Waseca, she married a young man from next door Steele County, Richard Myron Middaugh. About a year after the marriage, the couple purchased their own farm in Woodville Township, Waseca County. Because of a congenital heart condition, Richard couldn't be an active farmer, so he became a stock trader in Waseca. Orry and Richard had six children. Their fourth child, Roy, died in a railroad accident in 1902, and Richard died of his heart disfunction in 1904.

Orry never remarried after Richard died. She spent most of her time living with her daughter, Angeline, in Mankato and later in Minneapolis, both in Minnesota. Orry would go to visit her other daughter and daughters-in-law when someone was sick or a baby was due, but she always returned to live with Angie. Orry supposedly hated to have her picture taken, supposedly because she didn't care too much about her appearance. Her hobby was needlework. Orry died in Minneapolis on August 18, 1936 after a heart attack, and is buried in the Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
