Robert was the son of Robert Field and Mary Peale Field. Mary was the daughter of Oswald and Lydia Peale. Robert m. Abigail Stockton, dau. of Richard Stockton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and Annis Boudinot Stockton. Robert and Abigail lived at the Field home in White Hill, NJ. White Hill was near Bordentown, NJ and is now known as Fieldsboro, NJ. The house is still called White Hill.
Robert graduated from Nassau Hall College of New Jersey in 1793.
Robert and Abigail had 6 children: Robert (1797-1850), Annis Stockton (1799-1823), Mary (1801-1875), Julia (1802-1802), Richard Stockton (1803-1870) and Hannah Boudinot (1806-1880). Robert, Richard and Mary all moved to Natchez, Mississippi.
