Glydus Marie Eaton Abbott, 96 years of age, departed this life quietly in the early morning hours of Monday, August 24th, 2020.

Glydus was born on January 16th, 1924, daughter of the late James Luther Eaton and Zula Ping Eaton of the Bobtown community in Pulaski County Kentucky. She was one of seven children.

Glydus was survived by one son, Dennis Ray (and Alicia) Abbott; one daughter, Diane Kay (and Steve) Smiley; five grandchildren, Amanda Ray Abbott, Eric Allen Smiley, Sara Glydus Smiley, Lucas Daniel Bumgardner, and Ethan Forrest (and Casey) Bumgardner; two great grandchildren, Landon Bumgardner and Rayland Bumgardner; one sister, Faye Jones; a sister-in-law, Ada Eaton; and a host of other family and friends who mourn her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Luther Eaton, who departed this life on January 4th, 1966 and Mary Zula Eaton, who departed this life on September 9th, 1968; her loving husband of 71 years, Clifford Ray Abbott, whom she married on Christmas Eve, December 24th, 1946 and who departed this life on January 30th, 2018; and five siblings and spouses, Geneva Eaton Ping (and Roy), Orvin "Bud" Eaton (and Doris), Christine Eaton Epperson (and Ed), Luther "Vernon" Eaton (and Iva Dean), and Donald Eaton.

As a young adult, Glydus contributed to the World War II effort by working in a machine gun factory which resulted in profound hearing loss in her later years. Following the birth of her first child, Dennis, Glydus focused her energy and talents to motherhood and homemaking. In 1969 the Abbott family moved from Englewood, Ohio to their hometown Somerset, Kentucky. She then took on the additional roles of partner, secretary, and accountant for the family construction business, Ray Abbott Builders.

She and her husband were partners in fun and recreation as members of a Somerset senior bowling league and as a "side-kick" in many a ferocious Rook games with friends. Glydus was a woman of strong Christian faith. She was a charter member of Crestview Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio and Beacon Hill Baptist Church in Somerset, Kentucky. At the time of her death she was a member of First Baptist Church of Somerset, Kentucky. Her daily actions and speech reflected her deep love of God.

Glydus was an exquisite southern cuisine cook including peanut butter fudge, chocolate pies, and crock pot tenderloin. She was rare combination of beauty and brains, modesty and moderation, wit and wisdom, and grit and grace. Glydus honed tactfulness to a fine art. She was elegant, delicate, and graceful. Her most precious worldly possession was her bible and pictures of her loved ones.

She was laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Ray in the Eden Cemetery in the Bobtown community of Pulaski County, Kentucky.

Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 27th, 2020 with David Pendleton officiating.

The Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky was in charge of the arrangements for Glydus.
