Ernest was born September 21, 1930 in Madison County, NC to the late Arthur and Florence Robinson Metcalf. He worked for Old Fort Finishing for many years until his retirement and was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Ernest was very active in his church and always willing to serve. He was the former director over Bethlehem Community Cemetery for over 20 years. Ernest loved baseball and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He especially enjoyed watching his grandson play ball and he never missed a game. Ernest will forever be loved and missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Brown Metcalf, December 18, 2020 and several siblings.
Those left behind to cherish Ernest's memory are his daughter, Beth Davis and husband, Mark; two grandchildren, Josh Davis and wife, Sharon and Tammy Gardin; and four great-grandchildren, Corwin Gardin, Jayda Gardin, Eastyn Davis and Elijah Davis.
A graveside service to celebrate Ernest's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Bethlehem Community Cemetery with Rev. David Blackwelder and Rev. Bruce Marlowe officiating.
