Doug was the first son of Rachel and James Baxter Brashier; and brother of Virgil, Nathan, Augusta, Druce, Robert and Lindsay. He married Sophie Ladoshia Foreman on July 4, 1889 and was the father of:

Based on the 1900 and 1910 census records, Doug and Sophie also had two children who died before 1900; and one who was born after 1900 and died before 1910.

Doug moved from Texas to Johnston County Oklahoma in 1901 and was a farmer. He outlived several wives after Sophie. In the 1930 census, his wife was Bell. Another wife died in April 1935 and is buried with the family. His last wife (Pearl) died in 1952.
