Mercille was the fifth of seven children born to James Henry and Annie Belle (Caraway) Baker. She married Walter Rufus Ryan and they were the parents of two sons: John Lee and James Lynn.

GONZALES -- Mercille Ryan, 77, of Gonzales, died Thursday, March 14, 2002.

She was born July 9, 1924, in Smiley, to the late James Henry Baker and Annie Belle Caraway. She was a retired administrator for Warm Springs Hospital and member of the First United Methodist Church of Gonzales.

Survivors: son, James Ryan of Gonzales; and sister, Doris Mares of Cistern.

Preceded in death by: husband, Walter Rufus Ryan; son, John Lee Ryan; three sisters; two brothers; and parents.

Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m. tonight at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Gonzales, the Rev. Jay Brown officiating.

Burial will be at Bundick Cemetery, Smiley. Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, Gonzales, 830-672-3232.
