She met Steve Zerr in 1952 and they married on November 3, 1953 in St. Peter. To this union, 3 children were born, Steve, Jr., Maxine and Karen.
Lou grew up on a farm Northeast of St. Peter, Ks. Lou was a homemaker, cleaned houses, and later a nurse's aide until 1971 when she attended Colby Community College and got her GED. She continued her education at CCC in the LPN Nursing Program. She received her diploma on August 22, 1973. She worked at the Long Term Care Facility in Hoxie until her retirement in 2000.
Lou had many interests and kept busy with them. She loved dancing, meeting new people, crafts, playing cards and was a vicious Wahoo Board player. She was known for her delicious German cooking and always had extra people around her table to feed. She was a member of the Sunflower Polka Club, St. Frances Sodality and Wheatland Ladies VFW Auxiliary #2864 in Grinnell, Ks.
Her biggest love, pride and joy was her family. No matter how much she was teased and picked on, she could always hold her own and dish it right back. She loved picking on the staff at Prairie Senior Living Center.
Louella was preceded in death by her husband, Steve; grandson, Jason Zerr; sisters, Eleanor, Mary, Sister Gilberta and Clara; brothers, Alfred, Edwin, Kenneth and Ralph; and sons-in-law, Brad Rondeau and Tom Jones.
She is survived by sister, Rosie Heier; children, Steve Zerr, Jr. (Lucy) of Levant, Maxine Adams of Colby and Karen Adams (Dick) of Colby; 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; many nieces and nephews; 4 sisters-in-law and many special people who called her Mom.
Visitation is at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie, starting at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 13, 2021. The family will greet visitors from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., and Rosary will start at 7:00 p.m. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Hoxie with burial at the St. Frances Cabrini Cemetery.
