Hill City -- Joseph J. Appelhans, 73, died Sunday evening in the Sheridan County Long Term Care home where he had been residing the past two years.

Survivors include his wife, Marie, of the home; four sons, Alfred and Ralph Appelhans, both of Menio, Kan.; Edwin Appelhans of Hill City and Kenneth Appelhans of Thornton, Colo.; six daughters, Mrs. Tony (Eleanor) Dinkel, Mrs. Albert (Clara) Dinkel, both of Morland, Kan.; Mrs. George (Mary) Evers of Norman, Okla.; Sister Gilberta of Concordia, Mrs. Steve (Louella) Zerr and Mrs. Jake (Rosalie) Heier, both of Hoxie; a brother, Maurice Appelhans of Collyer; five sisters, Mrs. Odilla Wasinger, Mrs. Helen Bieker, both of Garden City; Mrs. Caroline Knoll of Russell; Mrs. Josie Richmeier of Morland, and Mrs. Marcianna Richmeier of Collyer; 36 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services for Appelhans will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Anthony Church in St. Peter, Kan. Fr. Alex Leiker will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. Tuesday until service time at the Community Hall in St. Peter, Kan. The Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Community Hall. Spencer Chapel of Hill City is in charge of arrangements.
