Jewel Dean Apple
Funeral services for Jewel Dean Apple were held Monday at First Baptist Church with her son, Ray Apple officiating. Services were under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Jewel died May 5, 2021, at her home in El Reno. She was born April 4, 1938, in El Reno, daughter of Ulysses S. and Etta (Leathers) Sands. She was the plant operator for the El Reno Water Plant and the only woman to retire from the Public Works Department of the city of El Reno. Jewel was a member of Southern Heights Baptist Church.

On Nov. 5, 1954, Jewel married Ora Dean Apple in Kingfisher. Ora preceded her in death on April 8, 2003.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James "Buster" Sands, Donald "Wayne" Sands and Lloyd Sands; and sisters, Grace Choate, Joyce Genzler, Doris Roan, Lois Lynch and Essie Sands.

Jewel is survived by her daughter, Mary Lynn Barker and husband, Harley of Calumet; son, Ray Apple and wife, Carla of El Reno; grandchildren and spouses, Curtis Jr. and Tristan Clark, Desiree and David Niles, Sarah Apple, Hanah and Josh Royal, Heather and Wes Caldwell, Kelcey and Joel Woodward, Megan and Ben Schraad, Kenny Sturges, Chris Bruner and Natalee, Candice and Julia Barker; great-grandchildren, Ryahn, Curtis III, Sierria, Anthony, Erica, Logan, Robert, Gabby, Asher, Ellie, Turner, Kyson, Josiah, Lily, Guy and Chris; and great-great-grandchildren, Ryton and Layla.

Memorials in Jewel's name may be made to the Parkinson Association.
