METAIRIE, La. -- Murl Holmes Bearden Williams, 96, of Metairie, died here April 7, 1994, at East Jefferson Parish Hospital.

Visitation will be from noon Saturday at Capps Funeral Home of Tylertown until services at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Tylertown Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams was born April 23, 1897, in Tylertown. She was the daughter of the late James D. Holmes and Janie Brock Holmes.

She attended what is now the University of Southern Mississippi and taught school at Mesa for several years. During World War II she became a nurse and practiced in New Orleans until she was 81.

She also was preceded in death by two husbands, Michael M. Bearden and Robert Williams.

She is survived by two daughters, Jane Baker of Metairie and Doris Garrett of Anaheim, Calif.; one son, Michael M. Bearden of Lake Butler, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Katherine Bearden and Earl Bearden, both of McComb, and Thurmon Bearden and Eutha Bearden, both of Tylertown; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
