TYLERTOWN — Elmer Holmes Bearden, 67, a resident of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and a native of Tylertown, died Aug. 5, 1988, in Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Hartman - Hughes Funeral Home of Tylertown.

The son of Murl Bearden Williams of Lake Butler, Fla., who survives him, Mr. Bearden attended McComb schools through the 10th grade and was a 1938 graduate of Tylertown High School. He graduated from Mississippi College and received a master's degree from Boston University and a doctorate from the University of California in Los Angeles. He also attended Harvard University.

After a few years of teaching, Mr. Bearden joined Mobil Oil Co. in California and later transferred to New York City. He traveled extensively for the company in Asia and Europe in the marketing division. From 1974 until his retirement in 1984, he was manager of Mobil's Public Affairs Secretariat. He was a member of the Harvard Club.

Other survivors include a brother, Michael M. Bearden of Lake Butler; and two sisters, Doris Garrett of Anaheim, Calif., and Jane Baker of Metarie, La.
