James Earl Black

James Earl Black, 83, of Poplar Creek died Saturday night, April 18, 1987, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood. He was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church.

Memorial services for the retired farmer were conducted from Poplar Springs Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Monday, April 20. The Rev. Al Finch and the Rev. H.B. Vinson preached services. Interment was in Poplar Springs Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie Elizabeth King Black, former correspondent for The Winona Times, two daughters, Mrs. Janie Fondren of Stewart and Mrs. Helen Hovas of Greenwood, two sons, Dan Black of Dunwoody, Ga. and Durward Black of Germantown, Tenn., two sisters, Mrs. Nannie Brister of Winona and Mrs. Maudie Tanksley of Greenwood, a brother, Bowers Black of French Camp, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Larry Allen, Ernest Braswell, Jack Jackson, Cloyce Gibson, Donnie Hovas and Joe Moore. Lee Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Lee Funeral Home of Winona was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Black was a retired farmer and a member of the Poplar Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Minnie King Black of Greenwood; two sons, Dan Black of Dunwoody, Ga. and Durward Black of Germantown, Tenn.; two daughters, Mrs. Janie Fondren of Stewart and Mrs. Helen Hovas of Greenwood; one brother, Bowers Black of French Camp; two sisters, Mrs. Nannie Brister of Winona and Mrs. Maudie Tanksley of Greenwood; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
