Maxine was born August 1, 1928, in Cumberland County, Kentucky, the daughter of William M. and Della T. Cross Smith.
In 1942 she married H. Truman Stephens. Maxine was a devout Christian her entire life and enjoyed helping others.
Survivors include her sons, Ron (Sheila) Stephens of Columbus, Marty (Karen) Stephens of North Vernon; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Truman Stephens, Richard Hammond; sons, Max, Jerry, Richard and Dan Stephens; nine brothers and four sisters.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Alan Smith officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
