Enola Gay (Rich) Hewitt Roehrer passed away Sunday, August 8, 2021 after 25+ yrs coping with Alzheimer's Disease. She was the 12th of 20 children. Enola was born, November 11, 1937 in Clarkrange, TN on what became Veterans Day, named Enola Gay (before the WWII bomber), and having an entire family of veterans made her a lifelong patriot.

The Rich family returned to Pickett Co when Enola was 8 yrs old, settling in the Boom community. Enola Rich went to High School in Byrdstown and White Co, Tennessee where she married Zachariah Holmes Hewitt (deceased 2019), father of her 4 children. They lived in Detroit, Michigan & White County until their divorce in 1962, when she moved back to Boom with her children.

Enola had a long career as a nurse beginning with Lady Ann Memorial Hospital in Livingston where she helped save many lives in Emergency and as an original nurse in the Cardiac/Critical Care Unit. She assisted Doctors and patients in Middle and East Tennessee, Florida, and West Virginia.

Enola was a renowned genealogist; she and her eldest sister, Frantie Williams, were charter members of chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution, First Families of Tennessee, and wrote sections of historic records and books. She supported Pickett County and Overton County Historical Societies & libraries in Middle Tennessee. Enola was a lifelong learner and contributor to her communities, e.g., helping people over age 55 throughout Upper Middle Tennessee continue working, serving as campground attendant on Dale Hollow Lake, running motel operations in West Virginia. She also helped neighbors, family, friends - anyone who needed her help - and animals, especially poodles, whom she adopted and adored.

Enola is survived by sisters: Norma Keltner Kerbaugh of Nashville, Sandra L. Rich of Sparta, Juanita Jane Lefew of South Carolina, Chiela Jean Parsons of Boom, Tennessee; and a brother: Colon Kelly Rich of Rickman.

Enola is survived by her eldest daughter: Forrest H.S. Rich McPherson and youngest Grandson Zachariah Rich McPherson of Algood; granddaughter: Amber Lee Breedlove Manus of Indianapolis; grandchildren: David Leon Hewitt and Anna Nicole Hewitt Brown of Baxter; great-grandchildren: David Ethan Hewitt and Chani Noelle Hewitt and Matthew Lane Brown; and granddaughter: Micki Boles of Smyrna, Tennessee. Enola is survived by a huge extended family, including 60 nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, etc.

Enola was preceded in death by husband: James S. Roehrer (career Marine); her parents: Jesse W. Rich and Adah L. Winningham Rich; 14 brothers and sisters; and 3 children: Connie Jo Keith, Randall Holmes Hewitt, and David Harding Hewitt.

"She was the hardest working woman I've ever known," says her daughter.
