Boone County Democrat July 31, 1908

Another beloved pioneer of this county has passed to her reward. Mrs. W.W. Hollaway, a resident of the county since 1854, passed away at her home in Marcy township, Sunday morning, July 26th. Death was due to the advance of old age, she being eighty seven years old. The funeral services were held Monday, July 27th, attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends, come to pay a last tribute of respect to the memory of a noble woman and one whom all had loved and esteemed in life. The remains were laid to rest in the private family cemetery at the old home in Marcy township. Francis Cothran was born in Wilks County N.C. in 1821. In 1839 she was united in marriage with W.W. Hollaway. In 1854 they came to Boone County and settled on the farm in Marcy township where they have continued to reside since, over fifty four years. To Mr. and Mrs. Hollaway were born ten children, seven of whom survive to mourn her death and are given the heartfelt sympathy of all in their bereavement. They are Oliver and Thomas Hollaway of Montana, Lindolph at home, Emily McCall, Ellen Blyth, Jane Williams and Mrs. C.J. McCall. She was a woman of beautiful Christian character and her death will be mourned by a wide circle of admiring friends.
