Philip William Hill passed peacefully at Mat-Su Regional Hospital on Aug. 22, 2021.

Pete, as some of his friends called him was born in Punxsutawney, Pa., on Jan. 28, 1943. He grew up in Marion Center, Pa., with seven sisters and five brothers. While in Marion Center Joint High School he worked with Mike Brady on their farm.

In May 1962, he joined the Army. He was stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky., in the 101st Airborne, otherwise known as the "Screaming Eagles" a unit instrumental in Operation Market Garden in World War II, until May 1965.

Mr. Hill moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in May 1965. His first job was as a vending route man who serviced the Anchorage Police and Fire Departments in downtown Anchorage. He later joined the Anchorage Fire Department, where he worked from 1965, retiring in 1988.

Mr. Hill moved to Beaver Lake in the Big Lake area in 1988.

Mr. Hill enjoyed helping others and serving in his community. He became a member of the Big Lake Lions Club, becoming very involved in community projects.

He loved hunting, fishing, and camping. Exploring the great state of Alaska was one of his greatest pleasures.

Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Roxanne Pincoe, who died earlier this year. He is survived by his wife, Sheri Hobson Hill; and four sisters, Jemima Spears of Punxsutawney, Charlotte Lane of Punxsutawney, Mary Campenola of Rossiter, Pa., and Lillian Woods of Rossiter. Also surviving him is his daughter, Cathy Tilton of Wasilla, Alaska, and Andrew Tegland of Minneapolis, Minn. He was also blessed with five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hill ashes will be spread in a favorite local in a private moment with immediate family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Big Lake Lions, Box 520480, Big Lake AK 99652.
