Seneca Winters, son of Nathan Winters and Grace Kelsey. Nathan died about 1827 in New York State. Grace and her family came to Athens, Menard Co., Ill., in 1854 having lived for a while in Dearborn Co., Indiana, where Seneca married Louisa Minkler on 24 Feb 1841. He was elected Justice of the Peace in 1856, and was on the board of trustees for the incorporation of Athens, Ill., in 1859. He was a wagon-maker, saw-mill owner, and farmer. He later moved to Tice's Station, Ill., where he and his wife had the Oak Ridge post office in their home. They were instrumental in the building in 1896 of a Methodist church there, called Winter's Chapel and served the community with services and Sunday school until 1922. Seneca and Louisa had 8 children who lived to adulthood, two died as children.

When Seneca died, his widow, Louisa, married Seneca's brother Reuben Kelsey Winters.
