According to her marriage record, she was the daughter of Jacques Turcotte and Marguerite Bergeron. Her 1900 census record indicates she was born on Dec 1827 in Canada.

She married Rupert Gauthier dit St Germaine at St Pierre, Ontario, Canada on the 8th of October 1844.

The couple and their children immigrated to the US in 1853 per the 1900 census or in 1850 per Rupert's obituary. They had nine children, among them: Marie Angelique, Agnes, William, Elisabeth, Noe, Ellen, Joseph Charles, Florence, and George.

In the US, the family chose to Americanize their surname, Gauthier dit St Germaine, to Gotchy. Gotchy and Gotchey were used for most civil records. Gauthier was used at their French Canadian Catholic church in Fond Du Lac.

In 1860 they were living in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac county, Wisconsin. By 1876 they were in Dancy, Portage county, Wisconsin.

Marie died in April of 1906. Her obituary was published in the Stevens Point Newspaper on 21 Apr 1906: The remains of Mrs Mary Gotchy, widow of the late Rupar Gotchy, were brought here from Dancy on the 3:20pm train Friday afternoon and taken direct to St Stephen's church, where service was conducted by Reb WJ Rice, the interment followed in St Stephen's cemetery.

The deceased was born in Canada 78 years ago and spent her youth in the domain. After their marriage the couple located at Fond du Lac, where they made their home for a number of years. They came to this city in 1871 and after a short residence here removed to Dancy, where the family home has been maintained for the past 28 years. Mr Gotchy passed away ten years ago. They are survived by a family of seven children, five daughters and two sons, Mrs. Nelson Strong, Sr, of this city being one of the daughters.

Mrs. Gotchy's death came quite suddenly and was probably the result of heart trouble. She lived alone and Tuesday morning attended as usual to her washing. During the afternoon she became indisposed and about 7 PM experienced a sudden and serious turn for the worse. She was attended by her daughter and granddaughter and everything imaginable for her relief was tried with no effect. She passed away at 10 o'clock that evening.
