George Fredrick "Smokey" Bowling, 78, of Blanchard, died Thursday, January 20, 2022, in Blanchard. The son of James Walton "Jim" Bowling and Georgia (Merimon) Bowling, Smokey was born September 25, 1943, in Blanchard.
Smokey married the love of his life in 1961, Patricia Joyce "Patty" Bowman. Smokey worked as a meat department manager at Humpty Grocery store in Norman for 24 years. He also worked at several other grocery stores, and opened and operated his own grocery store in Norman from 1988-2001. Smokey loved to work. Along with working at the grocery store, he also farmed.
He worked cattle, had quarter horses, pigs, and worked the crops. When he was younger, he loved to hunt and fish. Smokey and Patty both loved the holidays and cooking large meals for their families. After a car accident in 1998, he came to know the Lord and attended the Life Spring Church from 2009-2018, when his health became too bad to attend. Most of all, Smokey loved his Lord and loved his family. Much of the work and activities he did were done to spend time with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Cratis Bowling and Jack Bowling; and three sisters, Rena Rider, Jimmie Joyce Broadbent, and Mattie Flowers.
Smokey is survived by his wife, Patricia Joyce "Patty" Bowling; two daughters, Cindy Lewis and her husband, Mark, of Wynnewood and Kathleen Bowling of Blanchard; one son, Buddy Bowling and his wife, Lisa, of Norman; eight grandchildren, Shawn Ryan, Sherra Pennel and her husband, Matthew, Stephen Lewis and his wife, Kristy, Stefanie Brown and her husband, Brady, Staci Anderson and her husband, Chris, Kristin Corley-Sowers and her husband, R.D., Dalton Bowling, and Makayla Bowling; three great grandchildren, Jackson, Lana, Laila, and one on the way; two sisters, Sue Mayfield of Dibble and Judy Young and her husband, Ronny Young, of Norman; and several loving family members and friends.
