Harry was born March 15, 1841 in Rossie, New York, the son of Reuben Bridge Buckman and Juliana Castle Buckman. He enlisted as a Private on January 5, 1864. He was wounded at Laurel Hill, Virginia May 10, 1864. He was then transported by cart to Judiciary Hospital in Washington D.C. where he died May 24, 1864. The family received a letter from Mr. W.Y. Sellick, state agent in Washington, informing them of the death of their son. In a letter (pictured at right) to the Assistant Surgeon Dr. Alexander Ingram U.S.A., his father Reuben B. Buckman inquired about the particulars of Harry's death, how he was buried, and whether he could be brought home.
