Karen A. Shimon, age 55 of 914 Main St. Whitelaw, (village of Kellnersville), graciously passed away on June 21, 2013 surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Karen was born on August 13, 1957 in Manitowoc, daughter of Edward and Eileen (Schermetzler) Staudinger. She graduated from Valder's High School in 1975. Karen was married to Michael M. Shimon on October 15, 1977 in Clarks Mills. She was a longtime resident of Kellnersville.

Karen was employed at Weber Stevens in Manitowoc for 12 years. She later became a cook at Reindl's Countryside Inn, K-City Diner, and Weber's Countryside Inn. She went on to become a CNA at St. Mary's Nursing Home for 12 years where she enjoyed caring for others. Karen and Mike were foster parents for about 14 years and provided care for 26 foster children. Karen enjoyed spending the summer months camping with her family, being with her children and grandchildren, and attending art and craft fairs. She had a knack for making amazing food, crafts and gifts for family and special events. She enjoyed Sunday drives with her husband, especially listening to his stories and humor.

Survivors include her husband Michael, Kellnersville; one son and two daughters: Jeff (Kristin) Shimon, Baraboo; Amy (Josh) Elmore, Waukesha; Bridget (Brian) Hunter, Menasha; three grandchildren: Aubrianna and Logan Elmore, Waukesha; Connor Shimon, Baraboo; her parents Ed and Eileen Staudinger, Reedsville; four brothers: Robert (Mary Kay) Staudinger, Valders; Greg Staudinger, Manitowoc; Gary (Shelly) Staudinger, St. Nazianz; Kevin (Kay) Staudinger, (Whitelaw); father and mother-in-law: Melvin and Delores Shimon, Cato; seven sister-in-laws: Susan Shimon, Manitowoc; Marjorie (Joseph) Puta, Two Rivers; Barb (Terry) Rush, Manitowoc; Mary Anne (Mark) Knier, Newton; Bernadine Shimon, Colorado; Beverly (Rick) Evenson, Cato; Carolynn (Chad) Christel, Kiel; four brother-in-laws: Paul Shimon, Manitowoc; Steve (Sandy) Shimon, Hilbert; Patrick (Jean) Shimon, Manitowoc; Peter (Natalie) Shimon, Taiwan. Karen is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and a very special life longtime friend: Joann("Jo Jo") Mueller. Karen was preceded in death by her three brothers: Michael Staudinger; Kenny Staudinger; Mark Staudinger.

In lieu of flowers a celebration of her life will be held at the family's house: 914 Main Street Whitelaw, 54247 (In Village of Kellnersville) on Wednesday, June 26th from 5-7 p.m. Private family services will be held. The family extends a special thank you to the caregivers at Aurora Two Rivers Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic & Hospital, (especially nurse Nancy Goertz at Aurora Hospital Two Rivers) and Aurora Baycare, Dr.Nancy Davis, Rivers Bend Rehab, Holy Family Home Care (especially Tanya who was by her side for many months), Aurora Hospice nurses and all other nurses and aides for the compassionate care shown to our mom and family.
