Stuart Bradford Marshall was born on February 1, 1875, in Meadow Lands, Pennsylvania. He was the son of George Catlett and Laura Elizabeth Stuart Bradford Marshall.

He was a member of the Class of 1894 at Virginia Military Institute, graduating with a degree in chemistry (general and applied). In 1915, he obtained a Master's degree in chemistry.

On April 30, 1907, Stuart Bradford Marshall and Florence Janney Heaton were married in Washington, DC.

They had one son, Stuart Bradford Marshall, Jr, born on October 22, 1910, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Stuart Bradford Marshall died on November 13, 1956, and was quietly cremated as per his wishes. W.W. Chambers Company was in charge of arrangements. He was survived by his widow Florence Janney Heaton Marshall, their son Stuart Bradford Marshall, Jr.; his brother General George C. Marshall; and sister Marie Louise Marshall Singer. He may have died in Washington, DC.
