George A. Allen was the fourth child born to David Allen & Elizabeth Jane "Jennie" Martin. Family records of his youngest son Joel Melvin Allen, say that his Father George Allen was sickly his whole life. George did live to be 37 years old and Joel was only 8 years old when his Father died. Joel's Mother Paulina Hicks died in August, 1862 soon after Joel was born. The children were then raised by other family members after Paulina died. George was unable to take care of them on his own because of his illness. Joel told his own children that his life was hard growing up without a Mother and only having his Father for a short time. George & his wife Paulina were married in 1851. She was the daughter of Hiram Hicks & Francis "Fanny" Brown. George was 17 & Paulina was 15. They had 5 children. 1. Hiram Hicks Allen, 2. James Martin Allen, 3. Burns Allen, 4. Samuel David Allen. 5. Joel Melvin Allen.
