Bob served in the US Army and was a UH-1 door gunner during the Vietnam War. He returned from war and one special day in early 1970, he walked into Blue Cross and Blue Shield and saw a beautiful lady named Kay Williams working there. Bob asked Kay if she was wearing Estée Lauder perfume and the rest is history. They married later that year and enjoyed 36 years of marriage until her death in 2007. He was employed at the US Postal Service, where he held numerous titles, for 37 years until 2012. Bob enjoyed being a baseball coach for the Knights of Columbus for numerous years. His hobbies included cooking, golfing, hunting, playing cards, dancing and listening to polka music. He also loved anything KU, especially watching basketball games. Bob never met a stranger, always had a smile on his face, and had a joke or story for every situation.
Bob is survived by his son, and his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandsons, siblings.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay, parents, siblings, Ed Riedel, Joe Riedel, John Riedel, Leona Kinderknecht, Isabelle Fiffe, Aurelia Artzer, Clara Finan, and Vi Gross.
The Knights of Columbus Chalice Ceremony will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2022, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2700 SE Virginia Ave, Topeka, KS 66605, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Inurnment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka.
