My father was the son of an Italian immigrant who came to this country in 1903. When his father was Naturalized, he changed his surname from D'Alessandro to Alexander. He enjoyed his retirement from his career with the railroad. He raised his family in Cuyler; where he enjoyed woodworking and was quite talented from making grandfather clocks to a complete child's farmhouse and barn. He served honorably for the US Army during WW2. His favorite war story was about his time during the war finding his brother's unit near where he was stationed. Given permission from his commander to visit his brother for the day. He loved music, especially Big Band and Country; in his younger years, you would often see him on the dance floor at a local bar. He enjoyed playing his portable piano and singing.
His wife, Beatrice VanDee predeceased him, as well as his parents Michael Alexander and Mary Williams, his great grandson, and 16 of his 17 siblings of which only his youngest sibling, Mary Carol survives him.
He is survived by his six children (Phyllis "PJ", Vicki, Arthur Jr "Fatso", Heidi, Peggy and Jerry "Jay") and his adopted grandson, Jesse, who he raised and loved as his son. He is survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
