OBITUARY
BRO. C. GARVIE P.G.
Quite, a wave of regret passed over the Queensland AMC on Wednesday last when it was reported to them that Bro C. Garvie, of the Loyal King Edward Lodge, had passed away that morning. The previous evening at the smoke social the chairman (Bro H. Wakefield) had mentioned that Bro. Garvie, who had materially assisted in the arrangements for the social, had been seized with a stroke when getting ready to go to the function.
Thursday morning the AMC ad journed proceedings to attend the funeral service at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. The Grand Masters Officers and delegates as also the Grand Master and officers from New South Wales and members marched from the conference hall to the church and participated In the impressive service conducted by Rev J. McDiarmid after which Deputy Grand Master Conrad read the Oddfellows burial service. The pall-bearers were Past Grands J. Melrose, W. McAllen, W. N. Dennis and H Wakefield. After the service all Oddfellows assembled in front of the hearse and marched to the post office corner where they formed a guard of honour through which the hearse passed enroute for Mt Thompson crematorium. The conference members then returned to the hall and resumed their deliberations. The proceedings were unique for Southport, most impressive and a fitting tribute to a departed brother who had always taken a keen Interest in the MUIOOF.
The late Bro Garvie was 61 years of age; he was admitted to te Society on Feb 2nd 1922 and transferred to King Edward Lodge on July 8th 1935. He was a keen supporter on the Lodge and was a member of the entertainment and reception committee for the AMC. He was a keen supporter of the Southport Amateur Fishing Club of which he was made a life member this year. Deep sympathy is extended Mrs Garvie in her hour of sorrow.
