Ruth Alice Gibson, age 80, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023, at her home on Georgetown Road in Elkins, West Virginia. She was born on June 15, 1942, in Arundel, Maryland, a daughter of the late Minor and Bessie Day Bell. On November 14, 1959, she was married to Guy Owens Gibson who survives at their home. Also surviving are five daughters, Rebecca Suzanne Hart of Elkins, Jeanette Belle Woods of Washington, NC, Robin Lynn Hotakey and Pamela Jane Gibson, both of Smithfield, NC and Julie Dawn Mouser of Philippi, WV and one son, Guy Owens Gibson II of Elkins; two brothers, James Bell of Florida and Franklin Bell of Baltimore, MD; two sisters, Virginia Rafik of California and Cathryn Spiva of Elkins; fifteen grandchildren, and several great grandchildren also survive. Also preceding her in death were five brothers, Harvey, Harry, Herbert, Eugene and Joseph Bell and three sisters, Fay Lara, Bessie Mathis, and Colleen Casto. Mrs. Gibson was employed for many years as a cook for the Randolph County Board of Education prior to her retirement. She was a member of Hart Chapel Community Church on Chenoweth Creek Road. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Gibson requested that contributions be made in her memory to the Gideons International, PO Box 97251, Washington, DC 20090-7251.
