Catherine "Kitty" Hutchison, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, 96, of Odessa, Delaware went to join the love of her life two days before what would have been their 39th wedding anniversary on April 12, 2023.

Kitty was born February 21, 1927 the oldest of five children to Charles and Pearl May Connell. Kitty was preceded in death by both of her parents, as well as her siblings Norman Connell, Robert Connell, and Carolyn Friedel. She is survived by her sister Gertrude McCombs.

Kitty was predeceased by her first husband Eugene Fretz, father of her surviving two children, Larry Eugene Fretz (Carroll) and Kathleen Fretz Chas (Joe), her five grandchildren Jason Fretz (Lauren), Nathan Fretz (Regan), Cristin Wittland (Brad), Amanda Chas-Crooker (Curt), and Drew Chas (Amy) and eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her second husband, Norman Hutchison and her step-daughter Sandy Wallis. She is survived by their grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Kitty loved being surrounded by all her family and friends.

When she was fifteen she attended beauty school. She traveled by train with a girlfriend from Clayton to Wilmington six days a week for four months, January until May. Upon graduation, she worked in Dover, then moved to Philadelphia and worked for seven years on the main line. After returning to Delaware she worked in Middletown for a bit before opening her own shop in her home in Odessa. As a cosmetologist for over 60 years, she provided a great life for her family. She always said, "if you love your work you would never work a day in your life". Kitty loved all of the people that she met during her time as a hairdresser.

A member of St. Paul's UMC, where she attended and was an active congregant for 70 years. There she helped in the nursery and with coffee hour. She was an active member of the Odessa Women's Club where she helped with Christmas in Odessa. She was a member of BPW (Business and Professional Women) for many years, the Odessa Fire Co, Auxiliary, the Smyrna/Clayton VFW Post 8801 Ladies Auxiliary, and one of the founding members of the "Fenwick Yacht Club".

Kitty was a pillar of strength and worked hard for the life that she built, but the simplest pleasures brought her great joy. She loved being with family, spending time at the beach, the first sip of a cold beer, and the last laugh on a late summer evening. She was never able to finish all of her main course, but always saved room for something sweet. She was always well prepared, but also ready to throw out the plans and go with the flow. There was no place that she loved more than Odessa and that was because of all of the people that surrounded her.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 20th at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 406 Main St. Odessa, DE 19730. a viewing will be from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. The service will begin at 12 Noon. Private burial will follow in the Townsend Cemetery.
