He was a native of Gaston County, born December 20, 1926 and was the son of the late Hardy E. Raxter and Bonnie Greene Raxter.

William worked for Burlington Industries for 26 years as a plant supervisor. He retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield as a producer in the Belmont area. He served in the United States Army as a sergeant during WWII, stationed in Italy. As a longtime member of McAdenville Wesleyan Church, he served in many areas within the church, over the years. His love for God, his family and his church was his main purpose in life.
SURVIVORS: Wife of 60 years, Louise Gittens Raxter; daughters, Sandy Greene and husband Jim of Greensboro and Marsha Josey and husband Lonnie from Troutman; brother, Henry Raxter of Gastonia; five grandchildren, Jacki Hand of Greensboro, Chad Josey of Raleigh, Chris Safrit of Charlotte, Lisa Josey of Statesville and Tammy Bills of Troutman; seven great grandchildren (also his pride and joy), Tyler and Stephaine Bills, Joshua, Rose and Jessica Hand, Nigel and Evangeline Safrit.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: Parents; brothers, Gene and Jack Raxter; four sisters, Zona Cross, Viola Lytton, Jewel Boyd and Carolyn Russell.
