He was a Marine Corps veteran He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where he was a deacon choir member and Sunday School teacher He was a retired agent with Gulf Life and Durham Life insurance companies.
Survivors include his wife Barbara Braswell Raxter, son Jeff Eugene Raxter of Gastonia daughter Beverly Raxter Shaw of Bessemer City, brothers W Earl Raxter of Belmont and Henry E Baxter of Gastonia,sisters Zona R Cross of Bessemer City and Carolyn Raxter Russell of Gastonia and granddaughter Shanna Lynn Raxter of Gastonia.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters Viola Lytton and Jewel Boyd and brother Jack Raxter
