AMOS GATES - a member of the original "Old Three Hundred" according to the State of Texas who erected this monument at his grave in 1936. The Old Three Hundred refers to the original settlers of Texas with Stephen F. Austin. His middle name has been recorded by some as Valentine.Amos arrived in Texas with his father, William and brother Samuel L. Gates - both of whom are likely buried in the Gates-Perry Family Cemetery with headstones worn away and illegible. Amos married LYDIA LAKEY about 1805. She was the daughter of Joel Leakey (spelling change in name at different times)and Nancy Calloway. Lydia must certainly be buried in the Old Gates-Perry Family Cemetery with one of the smoothly worn-away headstones. Amos Gates' mother, CATHERINE HARDIN GATES is buried next to him (south); then next to his mother lies her daughter, JANE GATES PERRY, sister of Amos. Next to Jane is the broken headstone of her husband, Dr. D.A. PERRY. On the opposite side of AMOS GATES (north) is the headstone of WILLIAM MITCHELL DAVIDSON.AMOS GATES member of the original "Old Three Hundred" according to the State Of Texas who erected this monument to him in 1936. He is buried with his family and his daughter's family (PERRY)on the GATES Property in The Old Gates-Perry Family Cemetery
