Eleanor F. Patterson, age 86, of DeSoto, Texas, entered everlasting life on Monday, January 16, 2023, in Carriere, MS.

Miss Patterson was born in Wyandotte, MI on April 18,1937 to Col. Samuel H. Patterson and Gertrude Donovan Patterson, and grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She was a 1955 graduate and Salutatorian of St. John High School, Gulfport, MS. She received her B.S. degree from Spring Hill College in Mobile, and M.S. degree in education from Fordham University, majoring in guidance and psychology. She was teacher-counselor at St. John's High School before she left to be with the Dependent School Overseas Program, and was assigned to the high school at Goose Bay, Labrador and Lajes High School, Azores.

While working as a guidance counselor at Johnson Air Force Base in Japan, she was named one of America's Outstanding Young Women and was featured in the 1970 edition of Outstanding Young Women of America. She had been at the school in Japan for three years. She later went on to teach at Bishop Dunne in DeSoto, Texas, where she retired. She attended church services at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, where she also sang in the choir before moving to Carriere, MS.

Miss Patterson was preceded in death by her beloved parents and siblings: brothers, Samuel J. Kane (Margaret) of Charlotte, NC. and Donald T. Kane (Jolanta) of Prospect Heights, IL; and her dear sisters: Gertrude "Ellen" Kane Westfall (Charles) of Gulfport, MS and Colleen M. Kane Potter (Donald) of Saginaw, MI. Left to cherish her memory include many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her love, wit, wisdom, and guidance tremendously.

An inurnment is tentatively scheduled for January 31, 2023 at Michigan Memorial Park, Flat Rock, Michigan. The family will have a private memorial at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider sending donations to St. Oaks Care Center, 83 White Chapel Rd, Carriere, MS 39426 where she enjoyed living and making new friends this last year.
