Rat Crane Dead
Erastus K, familiarly known as "Rat", well known in this and Helt Townships, died at the hospital for the insane, in Indianapolis yesterday morning. The remains will arrive in Clinton this evening and burial will take place in Higbie Cemetery tomorrow morning.

"Rat" Crane was a kind hearted fellow, but his raving, ne'er do well disposition kept him in constant struggle with poverty. He was a natural born wit and humorist and always kept those about him in constant laughter. His peculiar style was original, and he has done some very credible writing and sketching for the Vermillion County newspapers. He was first to see the ridiculous side of any proposition, and though often in painful physical and financial circumstances, was always looking at the bright side of life and making fun for those about.

Deceased leaves a wife and 6 children in almost destitute circumstances. He was 52 years of age and was a native of Vermillion County. He was a painter by trade and much of his life has been spent traveling over the country. He traveled to Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas to which the eccentric rover drifted, when the spell to leave Hoossierdom came to him.
