Obituary - Earl Arbogast. Dominion News. Morgantown, WV. Wed., May 4, 1938. pg. 2
Earl Arbogast, 29, Everettville, was found dead in a County jail cell yesterday, only 14 hours after he had been arrested for stealing tools from a WPA toolbox. The body was found by Deputy Sheriff George N. Scheneck when he went on duty at 7 a.m. He said that Arbogast, who suffered from a mental ailment, apparently died during an attack of this nature.
Arbogast who had been in jail previously for a sanity hearing was in a Pittsburgh hospital for a time about a year ago after he was picked up by Pittsburgh police who found him wandering on the streets of that city.
Scheneck said the man apparently died between 4 and 7 a.m., adding that the last inspection of the interior of the jail for the night had been made at 4 a.m. An inquest was ordered by Prosecuting Attorney John V. Sanders, and an autopsy directed to be performed.
Funeral services will be held at Junior, W.Va. on Friday at 11:30 a.m. with burial in the K. of P. Cemetery there. Surviving are his father, R. D. Arbogast; a sister, Mrs. Madge Smith of Jordan, with whom he had made his home; three brothers, Roy and Thomas Arbogast of Jordan, and Junior Arbogast of Riverside, and a sister, Dorothy Arbogast, of Riverside.
