Irene I. Holmes
HANSTON--Irene I. Holmes, 89, died March 11, 2007, at her home, Hanston.
She was born Sept. 21, 1917, the daughter of Charles and Agnes Hertel Bamberger. She was a lifetime area resident and a homemaker.
She belonged to the Hanston United Methodist Church, E.H.U. worked with the 4H, and helped with all church activities.
On Jan. 27, 1940, she married Veryl H. "Doc" Holmes in Iuka. He survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Randy and Roger, both of Hanston; three daughters, Sandra Brown, Durango, Colo., Sheryl Porter and Sonja Horyna, both of Hanston; a brother, Chris Bamberger, Jetmore, a sister, Sue Haas, Ness City; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Martin and Lloyd Bamberger; and three sisters, Mayme Hendrickson, Sophie Bamberger and Ida Ziesch; and one great grandson, Gage Porter.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Hanston, with the Rev. Mitch Reece presiding. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Burial will be in the Hanston Cemetery, Hanston.
Memorials may be sent to the Hanston United Methodist Church or St. Catherine Hospice, both in care of the funeral home.

I remember as a kid when we used to spend time at Grandma Worley's house and we would go out to visit "Aunt Rene" and "Doc". She took us out to the fields to check the irrigation and we picked some fresh corn. We helped her out in the garden and then we went swimming in the horse tank. I remember her visiting Grandma's house too, and the yummy food she would bring when she came.
