Josie was born on Jan. 16, 1928, in Karber's Ridge to the late Joe and Eva (Cogdill) Partain. She married Lowell Hicks on Feb. 21, 1948, in Zeigler and he preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1996.
She was a member of the Dorrisville Baptist Church and a Baptist by faith.
Josie is survived by a son, Lowell David Hicks and wife Donna Sue of Pinckneyville; five grandchildren, Darla Sue Hicks of Pinckneyville, Lowell Dirk Hicks and wife Danielle of Festus, Mo., Leslie Darin Hicks and fiancee Katie Prior of Pinckneyville, Chuck Gibbs of Harrisburg and Chet Gibbs and wife Amy of Harrisburg; two great-grandchildren, Will Gibbs and Dylan Comer of Harrisburg; a brother, Harold Partain of Whitehouse, Tenn.; and a half-sister, Lavern Wallace.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lowell Chester Hicks; a daughter, Ethel Diane Gibbs; and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Reed Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Jerry Ford will officiate and burial will follow in Hicks-Asbell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to Fountain View Nursing Home and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
