Henry Cruit, a resident on the same farm in Ridge township for the past fifty-two years, died there Monday forenoon from the effects of paralysis with which he was first stricken last winter, and for the second time a week ago. His advanced age made his recovery impossible.

Mr. Cruit was born near Lancaster, Ohio, August 26, 1835, and at the time of his death was 80 years, eight months and 26 days old. In 1859 he came to Illinois and worked for the late Abram Middlesworth throughout the summer. In the fall, he returned to Lancaster, and on the 15th of February, 1860, married Miss Eliza G. Pugh. Together they came to Ridge township the following spring and for four years resided on a rented farm near the Washington church. Mr. Cruit then purchased a farm in the same township, on which he continued to reside until his death Monday. Mrs. Cruit passed away December 7, 1914, and since her death the aged man has been tenderly cared for in his old home by his daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Lumpp.

Mr. Cruit is survived by two daughters, three sons, twenty-two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one brother and a sister. The daughters are Mrs. A. J. Lumpp of Ridge and Mrs. J. J. Schmidt of Curtis, Neb. The sons are Albert C. Cruit, Virgil B. Cruit and Charles A. Cruit, all residing in this county near the old home place. The brother and sister are Robert Cruit and Mrs. Ellen Baker, both living near Lancaster, Ohio, and both feeble in health.

Was a Good Citizen.

Henry Cruit was a good citizen. He grew up in the nature and admonition of his Lord and was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church from his boyhood.
