Allen McFerrin Atkins, 83, died at 11:55 a.m. Thursday at the residence in Cumberland Heights after a five-year illness. He was a retired carpenter. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Tarpley Funeral Home by the Rev. Harry V. Agee and Rev. Roy Moore. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Mr. Atkins was born September 28, 1883 in Stewart County, son of the late Charles and Mattie Wyatt Atkins. On June 26, 1909 he was married to Maggie Wilson, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Kelly L. Atkins, Memphis, TN; five daughters, Mrs. Garnet Richardson, Clarksville; Mrs. Richard Wright, Houston, TX; Mrs. John Murray, San Antonia, TX; Mrs. Woodrow Ross, Bumpus Mills, TN; Mrs. Clem Bauche, Denver, CO; a brother, Paul Atkins, Dover, TN; three sisters, Mrs. Mae King, Granite City, IL; Mrs. Ruth Wyatt, Dover, TN; Mrs. Maggie Wallace, Indian Mound, TN; 14 grandchildren; five great grandchildren. He was a member of Rose Valley Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Furman C. Harris, Tom Harvey, Clyde Carnes, Edwin Abernathy, Orman Atkins, Phillip Allen, Smith __, and Homer Johnson.
