Willie was the fifth of fourteen children born to James Fetus Sr. and Maude Ellion (Moose) Burgess. She married William Curtis Elder and they had thirteen children: Buford Curtis, Rachel, Jack Fetus, Thomas Lynn, Alice Lynn, Annie Gay, Jayn Elizabeth, Constance Marie, David, Richard Burgess, Mary, Lena and John C.
