The Blizzard, Oil City Pa., Monday, April 4 1949:
" LEMUEL S. MARTZ
Lemuel S. Martz, 75, of Knox, died at 9:45 a.m. Saturday in the Oil City hospital following a long illness. He was born December 13, 1873, in St. Petersburg and spent his early life in oil field work. For ten years he was stationed at Casper, Wyo. and later worked in the oil fields of Bruin. For the past 18 years he was employed by the U.S. Corrugated Box Co. of Knox. Mr. Martz was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran church of Knox. He was first married to the former Miss Margaret Gatings, who died in 1922. In 1925 he was married to the former Mabel Coates Hanst, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Clair, of Warren, O., and a step-son, William, of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Mrs. Opal Tillotson, of Pittsburg, Calif., and a step-daughter, Mrs. Thelma Knight of Merrifield, Va., and a sister, Mrs. Charles Findlay of Pittsfield. The body was taken to the Bowser funeral home, Knox, and later returned to the family home."
