Fay Witte-Ball's Obituary dated August 7, 1971 (Courtesy of the South Carolina Historical Society):

Mrs. Fay Witte Ball, widow of William Watts Ball, former editor of the Charleston Evening Post and The News and Courier, died today at a Charleston nursing home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Connelley's.
Mrs. Ball was born in the Blake House at 321 East Bay St. on May 10, 1868, a daughter of Charles Otto Witte and Mrs. Charlotte Reeves Witte. Her family later moved to the Rutledge Avenue residence that now serves as Ashley Hall School.
Her father was a prominent businessman; president of the Security Savings Bank and Peoples National Bank. He was a cotton factor who emigrated here from Germany before the Civil War. Mr. Witte was a consul for Germany and Austria-Hungary and vice consul for Norway and Sweden.
Mrs. Ball married on April 21, 1897. Her husband died October 14, 1952.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Fay Ball King of Washington D.C., Mrs. Eleanor Ball Hewitt-Myring of England and Mrs. Margaret Ball Hickey of Charleston; a son, William W. Ball of Charleston; a sister, Mrs. Thomas R. Waring of Charleston; two grandchildren, Harry W. Hickey of Arlington, Va., and Warren Ripley of Charleston; and three great-grandchildren.
