W.W. Ball Jr. Dies At Age 69

William Watts Ball Jr., former telepgraph editor of the Charleston Evening Post, died Sunday in a local hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Connelley's.

Mr. Ball was born Feb. 18, 1905, in Charleston. he was the son of W.W. Ball, former editor of The News and Courier. He was a graduate of The Citadel and the Wharon School of Business, and also did graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania.

He began working in the ciculation department in 1938 and later became a reporter for the Evening Post. During World War II he served as a lieutenant in the Coast Guard both in the United States and Pacific.

He returned to the Evening Post in 1945 and was named telegraph editor in 1950. Mr. Ball retired from the newspaper in January, 1971. he was a member of the St. Cecelia Society and the Carolina Yacht Club.

Surviving are: his widow, Mrs. Sara Rankin Ball of Charleston; two stepdaughters, Miss Sara C. Smitty of Charleston and Mrs. Charles C. Tallman Jr. of Savannah, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. Harry W. Hickey and Mrs. William B. King, both of Charleston and Mrs. Phillip Hewitt-Myring of England; and two stepgrandchildren.
