William Watts Ball was the son of Beaufort Watts Ball and Eliza Watts-Ball. He married Faye Witte 21 April 1897 in Charleston, SC.
Ball was the long-time Managing Editor of the Charleston "News and Courier" newspaper.
His journalism career took him successively from the Laurens "Advertiser" to the Charleston "Evening Post," Greenville and Florida newspapers, the Columbia "State," and from 1923 until his retirement from the Charleston "News and Courier".
He was also the author of "The State That Forgot", a volume of South Carolina history and political philosophy.
