He is the son of Harvey and Emma Smith Hockett and brother of Amos M., Blanche E, Penn Pearl, Fannie E, Etna, and Leslie Hockett.
Obituary:
"Guy Hockett was born at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, September 17, 1875, and died at his home near Plainville, Kansas , June 28, 1938, aged 62 years , 9 months and 11 days. In 1878 he came with his parents to Kansas and settled on a farm in Rooks County, east of Plainville where he grew to manhood. At the age of 15 he went to Nebraska where he spent three years, returning to his old home in Rooks County in 1893.
On February 23, 1901 he was united in marriage to May Lynch at Codell, Kansas. To this union were born three daughters, Mrs. Erma Stanfield of Natoma, Kansas; Mrs. Lola Lewis of Boulder, Colorado; and Mrs. Lovisa Odien of Canon City, Colorado.
Mr. Hockett with his family, lived a short time in Rice County, moving from there to Nickerson, Kansas, where in a revival meeting he was converted to the Christian faith and became a faithful follower of his Lord and Saviour. After leaving Nickerson they moved to Scott County, where they lived until July 1, 1934 when they moved to Plainville where they have since resided.
Mrs. Hockett was a man of deep Christian faith. He lived a life free from bad habits and his kind, cheerful spirit and interest in the happiness and welfare of others won for him a place of loyal friendship in many hearts. He found his greatest joy in helping to care for the sick and sorrowing, and he pointed many to the sunny side of life. Truly, many will come up in that day to call him blessed.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, three daughters, and nine grandchildren; one brother, Amos Hockett of Roseburg, Oregon; three sisters: Mrs. Etna Carey of Woodriver, Nebraska; Mrs. Blanche McFadden of Salina, Kansas; and Mrs. Fannie Rolfe of Roseburg, Oregon; one uncle, William Hockett of Codell, Kansas; other relatives and many friends.
Services were conducted from the M.E. Church Thursday afternoon by M.R. Starbuck and interment was made in the Shiloh Cemetery."
