Anderson Pigg Crum was the son of John Crum and Mary Pigg, residents of Patrick County, Virginia. Anderson was brother to James, William, John, Henry, George, Alfred, Mary (Crum) Spencer and Sanford Crum, raised in Patrick County.

On October 22, 1834 in Patrick County, Virginia, Anderson married Letitia Akers, the daughter of Nathaniel Akers and
Elizabeth Akers. Anderson and Letitia made the move from Virignia to Missouri soon after marriage and settled to farm in Moniteau County. Anderson and Letitia were the parents of William Henry Clay Crum, Nathaniel Anderson Crum, James Wesley Crum, a dau d.y., George Washington Crum, Amanda Jane (Crum) Akers, Mary Elizabeth (Crum) Howard and a son who, along with his mother, died February 2, 1844.
