He joined the U.S. Army and served as an MP in Japan near the end of World War II.
On January 20, 1947, Don married Dorothy Irwin in Port Huron. After the service, Don worked at the Grand Trunk Western Railroad before joining the Port Huron Police Department as a motorcycle policeman. He retired from the P.H.P.D. in 1964 and took a job at St. Mary Catholic Church until retiring in 1990.
Don was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed working in his garden and riding his John Deere tractor. He loved being with his family, and he especially enjoyed going on family vacations.
He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Dorothy M. Arnett; his daughter, Mary Frances Arnett-Allen and his two grandchildren, Timothy and Courtney Allen, both of Port Huron; his sister, Sylvia (Bud) Krinjob of Mesa, AZ; three sisters-in-law, Katherine Arnett of Port Huron, Norma Arnett of St. Clair Shores, and Helen Garrett of Marysville; and several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and Ronald Arnett, and two sisters, Joan Scheland and Dorothy Merchant.
Cremation arrangements were by Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St.
A memorial mass and inurnment in the Allied Veterans Columbarium will take place at a later time.
Contributions may be made in Don's memory to St. Mary Catholic Church.
